World Ministerial Conference on Disaster Reduction in Tohoku

The World Ministerial Conference on Disaster Reduction in Tohoku was held on July 3 and 4, 2012 in the Tohoku region (Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures), the area most heavily affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

JCSfs headquarters worked in coordination with the Tohoku Regional Office to help run this conference, which was widely covered by the media. Approximately 500 participants--including delegates from 63 countries (such as foreign ministers and ministers in charge of disaster prevention) and representatives from 14 international organizations, international and national NGOs, and the private sector--took part in the plenary session and discussed Disaster Reduction in the 21st Century.
