World Ministerial Conference on Disaster Reduction in Tohoku
The World Ministerial Conference on Disaster Reduction in Tohoku was held on July 3 and 4, 2012 in the Tohoku region (Miyagi, Iwate and Fukushima Prefectures), the area most heavily affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake.
JCSfs headquarters worked in coordination with the Tohoku Regional Office to help run this conference, which was widely covered by the media. Approximately 500 participants--including delegates from 63 countries (such as foreign ministers and ministers in charge of disaster prevention) and representatives from 14 international organizations, international and national NGOs, and the private sector--took part in the plenary session and discussed Disaster Reduction in the 21st Century.
